Marrying in Slovenia From Abroad: How Bridal Hair and Makeup Works

You can plan your whole bridal look from home and meet your artist in person for the first time a few days before the wedding. Here is how that works in practice.

The process from first message to wedding day

  1. Ask about your date. Send the date, the ceremony time, where you'll get ready and how many people need hair and makeup. A few photos of looks you love help too.
  2. Get a quote. It should show the bridal price, everyone else in the party, and travel, which depends on the distance to where you get ready.
  3. Video consultation or trial. You talk through your dress, hair, venue and the look you want – over video if you're abroad, in person if you can.
  4. Pay the deposit. It's paid after the video call or trial, and it's what actually reserves the date.
  5. Plan the details remotely. Messages, e-mail and video calls cover the timeline, the bridal party and any changes.
  6. Optional trial in Slovenia. If you arrive a few days early, a trial on the spot shows how the look behaves in the local climate.
  7. The wedding morning. The artist comes to your apartment, house or hotel with everything needed, including professional lights.

When to start looking

An artist can only be with one bride on a wedding day, so popular dates disappear early. June, July and August weekends book up first, and July fastest. Spring, autumn and weekday weddings leave more room, but it still pays to ask as soon as your venue is confirmed. A good order is venue, then photographer, then hair and makeup.

The bride's booking is what secures the date. Bridesmaids, mothers and the groom can usually be added later, once you know who is coming.

The video consultation

For brides who can't travel to Slovenia months ahead, a video consultation replaces the first meeting. To get the most out of it, prepare:

On the wedding morning, the artist starts with your skin and fine-tunes with you before anything is final. More on this in Do I really need a bridal trial?

The deposit, and what if your date moves

The deposit is paid after the video call or trial, and until it is paid the date isn't reserved. It is not refundable – it covers the other couples who are turned away for that day – but if your wedding moves, the booking can move to a new date. Tell your artist as soon as you know.
