Most brides who read this live somewhere else. They choose a venue from photos, book an apartment they've never seen and arrive a few days before the wedding. That works well in Slovenia. You just need to know a few things the local brides take for granted.
What's different about marrying here
Few couples get ready at the venue. Most rent an apartment, a house or hotel rooms nearby, and hair and makeup are done there.
June, July and August weekends are booked before anything else, July fastest. One artist can only be with one bride a day.
Most places are within a couple of hours of Ljubljana. In summer, a ten-minute drive around Lake Bled can take much longer.
Around midsummer the sun sets close to nine in the evening. That gives you a long, soft window for portraits after dinner.

Who writes this
Hi, I'm Izidora
I'm a hair and makeup artist based in Slovenia. I've worked at the Cannes Film Festival and Paris Fashion Week, and I do bridal hair and makeup all over the country: Lake Bled, Bohinj, Ljubljana, Brda and the coast.
Many of my brides fly in from other countries, so I wrote down what they ask me most. The photos here are from my weddings, including a June 2025 wedding at Lake Bled. The advice is useful whoever you book. And if you'd like me, I'm happy to hear from you.

Five things to do first
- Ask about your date as soon as you have a venue. Venue, photographer, then hair and makeup is a good order.
- Choose where you'll get ready with the window in mind. Daylight matters more than the size of the place.
- Book a video call or a trial. You don't have to fly in months ahead. A trial a few days before the wedding is even better.
- Compare full quotes, not headline prices. Travel, the trial and hair are often extra. See what brides pay.
- Plan the morning backwards from the moment you leave, and give the drive a whole extra hour. See a timeline.
The calmest wedding mornings are planned backwards, from the moment you leave for the ceremony.
